THAN THE COLOUR OF HIS EYES"

Those are line's from Bob Marley's song "WAR". I used to sing it a lot in my younger days. I sort of grew up on his music. My friends and I lived this policy of equality among all men. We never saw each other as different races or religions. We acknowledged the fact that we come from different ethnic backgrounds and practiced our own religions. That didn't stop us from being friends and being together. We grew up learning from each other.

That is why we welcome the announcement by the DPM that the cabinet is studying the proposal to drop "race" from official forms. Read here.

This has long been a thorn in my flesh. I always insisted on saying I'm a Malaysian when the word "bangsa" comes up but alas only to be told that I'm not. I brought my son up saying all the while that he should always say he is a Malaysian but unfortunately the schooling system does not allow one to say that you are so, at least in the "bangsa " column. Thus the debate goes on to ascertain his ethnicity. Why must he be subjected to such a stigma. Aren't we really Malaysians?

So we are forced to identify ourselves by our ethnic backgrounds. Why does it matter anyway? Other than for purely cultural or religious purposes, I do not see any reason for us to do so. As long as we continue to identify ourselves by our ethnic backgrounds, the dream of creating a truly bangsa Malaysia will never be attained.

We should just be who we are as a people of a nation and just enjoy the diversity it provides without any reservations or prejudices. Let each and everyone be his own and stand up for what he is and not be labeled or curtailed by the chains of his forefathers ethnicity.

I thank Chong Kai Wee who taught me to play football, take the bus, play the guitar, drive a car, do the "disco" and speak Cantonese. I thank Sharuddin for teaching me the "funk" and Kamarulzaman for talking to me about Islam, Giam was the school Olympian, Kamal was the one who told me that Muslim boys go away during the holidays to get part of their "peckers" chopped off (HORRORS!!!). Wong Sifu the body builder,Rahim and I were the regular class commentators during the 1975 Hockey World Cup. Ahmad Bidin Mr Nice, Uztazah's son Najib, Lian Kee the classical guitarist (he was the only one allowed to have long fingernails) Hanging out with Sugu and the Gang made me feel cool. Amarjeet and his brother's invited me to their father's "jaga" to help out one night. Can't tell you what the girls taught me cause that will drive my wife crazy (very jealous lah, she thinks her husband like sharukh khan), but I can say that people like Eunice, Mythili, Joy, Jenny, Lennie, Habibah, Sarala, Siang Khin, Siew Fong, Adele, Janet, Yati, and all the girls I knew before help shape the sensitive side of me.

today: 10 October 2019

I wrote the above many years ago..but somehow never published it... today Junior is married and has a two month old baby girl.. Wifey told me the doctor at the hospital asked DIL why the baby has "Nair" as her surname..."You India kah..habis you mau pakai nama ini kah?" ... why does it matter to her..just do you job and check the baby as the government is paying you to.. If you want to know more..sure it must be about the baby and mother's health...what has the baby's racial history or name got to do with this.

Coming from a doctor, a supposedly well educated person...as we would naturally assume all doctors to be of a higher level of education and belong to a better crop of thinking minds...her reaction was totally disappointing not to mention disgusting too.

If i was there..surely i would have spray her with verbal venom enough to last her 7 generations.

Actually..come to think it..we can't blame the Doctor when our public universities..our pride ..our so called institutions of higher learning..are indulging in racially based activities. 4 universities, nothing less than some of the top universities in our country..one even specialises in producing teachers..organised and conducted an event that apparently wanted to champion the dignity of the Malays.. What "dignity" is being eroded may i ask..and how? If anything, your decision to hold such an event actually only served to paint a bad picture of the Malays.. Seemingly, you want to champion their welfare..but in actual fact..what sensible people heard ( Malays and non-Malays) was a baby stomping and crying and demanding "entitlement". Come on lah..i can accept if it came from some politicians...but not from our Public universities. Where are your priorities?

An academic...actually stood up and said " Malaysia is For Malays"... Oh my God... was he high on something or what. He can't be stupid cause he is supposed to be an academic. How did he arrive at this conclusion.. And then..there is the waving of the sacred word.."social contract". and next he stoops really low by quoting the Quran, to rationalise threats he made towards the non-Malays. Apparently the non-Malays are "manipulating the Malays, undermining the Malay dignity (whatever that is) , mocking the religion (Islam) and the Malay rulers. Probably he forgot that the Rulers are not only for the Malays but the Rulers are of all Malaysians regardless of their race.

The more i think about it..the more i worry about the future we leave behind for our children, and grandchildren. But then..if you care to look behind all the rhetoric..you will notice that it is nothing more than low grade politics.. The people of Malaysia are not like what these people talk about. Malaysian do not hate each other..We live in peace..trying to understand and accept our neighbours to our best. It is the leaders, politicians or religious leaders, who are forever painting this picture of fear and insecurity. Thus the gullible among the citizenry will be carried away with their endless rantings. This also a good way of diverting attention and avoiding real work that has to be done. No one wants to really admit their faults..it's always easier to point towards others. Easier to frighten the children into obedience..just use the other races as your bogeyman.

If you go to restaurants and sports venues, it is not uncommon to see the many Malaysians of various ethnic backgrounds mingling together. It is not difficult to find children of mixed marriages. Heck my son is one of course...and my granddaughter definitely. But does it all matter... can't we just be Malaysians, living peacefully with one another. Happily, working hand in hand for the betterment of our country and community. hey what the heck..just live for yourself even, without bothering or hurting anybody elses' race or religion. Is that so difficult to do. We are okay on the ground, we are okay with our neighbours who are of different religions and ethnicity. Stop telling us that we are killing each other when we are actually dining together. Please STOP spreading the hate.

Let's stand together and tell these selfish leaders that we don't care for their racial rhetoric. Stop pitting the citizens against each other. Please do what you are supposed to do. We put you there for a better Malaysia not for a divided Malaysia that only serves your personal needs, greed and egos. Work to improve the quality of our lives..not destroy it in order to protect yourselves. Stop shouting hate and screaming justice. We are okay together. "Bersatu kita Maju, Bercerai Kita Roboh".

Well son, you've certainly come a long way since then.
I would be happier if you were a little taller but you took your mother's side when it came to genes in that area..but I would have also liked it if you also took to your mother by being as hardworking but as the creator would have it, some of my traits show up here.
My nose would be fine on you too however your mother's stubbornness should be put to good use....from a different angle it would be resilience, persistence, 'never say die' kind of attitude thingy, and that's how you picked up skills and polished them.....like when you climbed into your crib, crawled up the stairs, rode a bike, handled the keyboards, plucked the guitar, drove the car and well..well how I wish you extend the same passion and enthusiasm to academics.

Son...no matter how you turn out..you're still our baby..no matter what you do...we will still love you..When you fall..we will be there to pick you up...I will always stand beside you..(ready to kick your ass)..no matter what we say..we still think about you everyday...Happy Birthday Adeep.

As you live out your last year as a teenager, growing towards adulthood...
you should also seek to grow a little wiser
never forget what your mother tells you, though she may sound like a broken record (or CD I suppose) singing out of tune.(she always does)
Always remember what I tell you, even if I may sound stupid and boring now..
Never put aside what your teachers have thought you
And never ever distance yourself from your obligations to Allah Almighty

"Matha, Pitha, Guru, Deva"......somebody said in Sanskrit.

And Kipling's poem seems so appropriate now and I believe it's every father's wish to have a son grow up to be healthy, honest, successful, respected and most of all a become a great man.
<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:worddocument> GIFTThe weekend was one to be especially cherished by the kid. What not when he came home to the gifts we promised him. We pledged them as a reward for being excellent in our eyes. He deserved it. I just needed an excuse to spoil him after all the nagging and fussing and bossing him around prior to his SPM exam.

The mother's gift

DELL STUDIO 14
Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB memory, 500 GB hard drive,
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
Cool bag, sleeve and dust cover

The father's gift
GODIN, Art & Lutherie
Cutaway Cedar Black,
Godin EPM Quantum 1 electronics
Wild Cherry back & sides,
Solid Cedar top &
silver leaf Maple neck
With case, strap and stand

We had our gifts too and I was just thinking about the gifts we have from each other

A wife's gift

Toyota VIOS 1.5 G

A husband's gift
Being at home on a Sunday morning

Okay hold the tomatoes....
It really is a gift, I contributed by checking what was cooking and deciding on which channels to watch. Also checked if the laundry was dry and gave precise instructions on when to take them in. Fussed about the cat fur all over the place and reminded the kid to clip his finger-nails and get a hair cut. What would they do if I was not around.

It really has been a long time since we spent Sunday mornings together, especially since he went to college. Even though, UIA's Center for Foundation Studies is just a stone's throw away in Section 17, we miss him dearly. He doesn't come home so often now as activities occupy most weekends and as parents we have to give in when he says he wants to study. To think of the times I bugged him to slave on the books and now ironically I feel a bit disappointed when he says he's not coming home cause he has to study for the coming exam

So you see, the last weekend was actually special, I'm always 'out' and I remember him telling his teacher some time back that 'his father spends more time in the car than at home' (See how much the missus loves me, she made sure the car was comfortable)
It was special just because I got to stay home (bonus was I got to bug the mother and son at the same time) I have to thank Tn Hj Kamaruddin and FAS for letting me have the weekend off.

In life many people take the little things for granted, It is really a luxury if you can sleep and rest all day. Having a son to nag and a wife to bug is super. Having a family that loves you is fantastic. Having people around that simply appreciate you for being there is God Given.
In real fact you don't even need an excuse to show or tell people that you love them. Savour the moment. You may not get a second chance.teachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-23535836266193130402009-07-28T11:43:00.013+08:002009-07-29T23:32:33.640+08:00GOING PLACES

Suresh and Muazi with the course instructors

Suresh, extreme right

My boys Muazi and Suresh are right on track and what I started a few years ago seems to be bearing fruit. they have again been selected to participate in the AFC Project Future Referees Development Program. It will be held in Kuala Lumpur this time around and they have been regulars since 2007.

Suresh is the youngest participant and makes me proud that they are the only two referees selected from Malaysia for this batch. I guess Firdaus will never be short of advice if he needs them. Both mother and son were sleeping . I thought to myself as I was yawning and struggling to stay awake, "Hey old man! Your son has a license to drive! Why are you driving?"
So.... I woke the sleeping kid. "Get up, Get up ! Drive!...

I tell you, I didn't blink a moment after handing over the wheel to him. All the way, I kept reminding myself to motivate and not to scream. Stay calm.. Cool...Praise him..
The missus must have been jealous as she didn't get the same treatment. it was always,:
"Change gear lah, apa lagi. tengah sangat lah, release clutch cepat lah, habis lah clutch aku." And she never drove again with me in the car......You see.. I learned a good lesson there.

Then the dreaded request to take the ladies shopping/marketing/visiting happened in the morning just as I was lazing down on the cushion with the Sunday papers.
My reply : Adeep can drive you there.
Wifey : Boleh ke?
My reply : Aik da ada lesen, apa takut. And I had the whole afternoon to myself, no ladies, no children, no cats, no visitors, no students, no complaining teachers,no sms, no television, just me and myself.........phew pure pleasure , peace.... (sorry Rizal, got here first)

Oh no....just remembered he still has to make that journey to and fro safely. And the missus is the driving instructor, adviser/supervisor/guidance councilor/ and a bunch of aunties in the back seat.
He might change the radio settings, the driver seat settings, change the angle of the rear and side view mirrors, and there might even be ladies' stuff all over the car. And there will be a permanent "P" sticker on the cars for two years least!
Oh my God, have I released a monster on the road?
Oh God, safe my family from the monsters on the road!

It gets worse...he already has control of my guitars , keyboard, PC, TV remote, my bike, my mind, my heart and even my mother and siblings. He has taken control of all things and people precious in my life. And worst still, they might think that they have no use for me all. I may cease to be important!

Suddenly all this being alone doesn't seem so exciting after all.teachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-156075979976237272009-03-05T01:28:00.009+08:002009-03-05T17:45:10.780+08:00THINK NOW
Saudara-Saudari ku keluarga Pengadil Malaysia

Sila hayati Pantun ini sekali lagi.

Langkah masuk rimau di dada
Silap langkah rimau dibedil
Berani, tegas, cergas, adil, waspada
Kalimah Keramat Kami Pengadil

Please, come together,

What is our mission?
What are our goals?
What are our dreams?
What are our priorities?

Where is the brotherhood?
Where are the promises?
Where is your pride?
Where are our ideals?
Where are our principles?

Who is your team?
Who are the opponents?
Who are you angry with?
Who are the supporters?
Who are you supporting?
Who are those laughing?
Who are they laughing at?
Who is the winner?
Who are the losers?

Why is this happening?
Why are we divided?
Why are we confused?
Why are we fighting?

When will we learn?
When will we see?
When will we change?
When will we grow?

Brother refs,
I am no longer active, and many more will not be around soon.I'll still be here to help in anyway I can. i too have a dream for our referees and am trying to achieve it in my own way. This week in Kuala Langat, athletics take center stage. What caught my eye was the deplorable condition of the Jugra stadium. The stadium was built in 1984 and as in many cases, Malaysian apathy reared its ugly head again. We have some good facilities but 'poor' maintenance culture and indifferent attitudes have seen these facilities gone to waste.
Every year the stadium is brought to life by the MSSD calendar as it is probably the only major athletic event held there other than the many neighbouring school sports .
The facilities and apparatus are refurbished and upgraded to a workable standard by teachers whose schools have been appointed as the technical committee. If not for the MSSD calendar, the stadium remains a sleeping giant awaiting a cruel death.
I wonder who is really in charge of the upkeep of the stadium. Is it the Town Council (MDKL), Public Works Department(JKR) , or the district office? What is the local sports council doing? What about all the hype on Rakan Muda and all the rhetoric about improving facilities and uplifting the standard of sports. Where are the politicians who are so loud? It was the same with previous state government and things haven't changed under the present one. Lots of lip service but where is the action?
Local sports personalities like Mr Jacob Mathews, have been working tirelessly to get the relevant authorities to do something but seems like all our efforts are in vain. Now we just sit and reminiscence about past glories and hope someone or something will change the fortunes of this sleeping giant. Please don't let it die. As a result, residents of this small district, stuck between Klang and Sepang, have been deprived of modern sporting facilities. This of course in a way curtails the performance and development of sports in Kuala Langat. You don't need a PHD to figure that out. I am disappointed and and frustrated. Forgive my outburst but I just have to shout out. I have lost faith in the people put in charge of these things. When others are moving forward, in leaps and bounds, we are not only left behind but appear to be falling behind in every way. To add pain to insult, our leaders seem to be preoccupied with competitions off the field rather than in the arena. As citizens of this country, we deserve more. Stop fleecing us like this.

teachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-73549944030255663882009-02-28T23:42:00.008+08:002009-03-01T22:43:08.456+08:00WHO'S ON THE WHEELThe man has passed his driving test. Yes he's a man now, a young one. That's quite a big chunk of reality for me to swallow actually.
Well, these few months were spent trying to get him licensed, so to speak. It made me poorer by RM1150, yes that's what it costs nowadays (with one retest for both car and bike). Not fretting, just sharing, but it was money well spent and was my obligation too and the bright side is it made me richer by having an extra driver in the family. Now I can sleep on all those long trips and even the shorter ones. Sleeping is one of life's pleasures you should know, and if you lead a life like mine, you'd grab every chance you get to doze off.

When I called and the good news was relayed, was overcome by emotions and had to tell myself that it was just a driving test. No big deal for normal folks but for geeks like us who react weirdly to everything in life, it is some sort of achievement.
Got to think about his first few steps walking, his first time on a tricycle, then graduating to training wheels and later on to a two wheeler and advancing to the motorised version and of course his first driving lesson was on his 15th birthday in the old KE30.
It was me who drummed the first beats of music into him when he was still in his mother's belly. I was there to hear him speak his first few words one of which was "poochee" (insect in Malayalam). I tell you, mother and father were so proud that their son was speaking and saying something comprehensible until he pointed to everything around him and still said "poochee". Ah... enlightenment.. he's just imitating some sound that he heard his crazy dad saying,..... profound knowledge! That's language acquisition for you!
Watching him grow and trying to instill values that you believe in is not an easy task. You have society , religion, family, your better half and 'the times' as competition and you have to find a way to seep it into him, explaining some and just insisting on others. You succeed most of the time but also fail in some. You see, HORRORS! these children also have minds of their own! Further more they may not only take after you, but OH GOD also after your better half! These things are not easy to accept especially if you are a hard head yourself.
Well, as much as it was a teaching process , it was also a learning one too. Only thing is, you may not get too many chances to make mistakes. Some mistakes in life are too costly and irreparable.
Now, I'm just learning to accept that the time is near when he will soon widen his horizon and his playground will not be just around the corner anymore. Have to learn to live with the fact that the time is not far away from when he may not be with me for every dinner when I'm at home. I don't know if I can let go but I know I have to. I know that he is just raring to go out there and conquer the world. His choices may not be what I want them to be. I just hope that I have done a good job trying to guide him, Kipling's "IF" is so meaningful and I know he read it too. Winning this one would make everything else so sweet. Amidst screams of encouragement, and shouts of happiness and joy, Arun dashes past the finish line like a gladiator in shining armour, and claims victory with his fist clenched high up in the air.

It was at this moment that something caught my eye, it was Wafiy, he was running after Arun. Then it happened, a hug, Wafiy hugged him saying aloud, "kita menang, Kita menang". At that moment I felt that it was all worth it, every drop of blood, sweat and tear I shed, It was all worth it. I had succeeded. The boys won the race but I won the battle. What the politicians , leaders and preachers failed to do was simply achieved by a simple sporting event.
I came to my senses when Ikmal and Sharafi caught up with the celebrating pair, they have become heroes. Arun the star, the name that will be remembered by many hopeful minds imagining and dreaming that one day they too will win a race like Arun, and many a giggling girl now wish how proud they would be just to walk beside these champions.
A moment that transcended race, creed or religion. A moment so rare, a moment that I wish would spread like wildfire and ignite the spirit of every other Malaysian, a moment that I wish could last forever.
How I wish if only the grown ups could learn to share and remember this feeling, remember what we had, remember the true spirit of sport, remember that we are one, remember we are Malaysians.teachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-77930721226267507532009-02-15T19:08:00.013+08:002009-03-05T01:39:54.716+08:00THINKING FOOTBALL

The football crisis in our country is becoming worse. The latest FIFA ranking sees Malaysia falling two notches down to 161. The fans have been crying foul and yet there are parties who feel that the ranking is not important. Read here and here
There were also outbursts regarding the governing body's decision to sack the acting manager of the national team, Dato Soh Chin Aun and also the coach, Sathianathan. However the manager KJ escaped action though he was willing to take the blame. Read here and here.
However, the biggest surprise comes from the alleged mismanagement of FAM's referee department. The department has been accused of cronyism. Read here .

Datuk Soh Chin Aun, a local legend and former captain of the national team, who is the vice-chairman of the referee board, has denied any knowledge of these allegations. His reactions were also not well received by certain quarters.
The standard of refereeing is being questioned as never before and even blamed for the poor performance of the national team. There were wild accusations that the disharmony in the department has spread to other departments causing the ranking to fall. How much more ridiculous could one be?

Firstly lets get something straight, I think the issue here is not the standard of refereeing but the standard of our national team. Over the years no matter who the chairman was, be it from the time of Tan Sri right up till the late Nazri, Malaysia never failed to produce referees of top quality, From the tenure of Dato George Joseph, Rodzali and now Colonel, as the HOD, FAM continued to be successful in this respect.

Our referees were highly sought after to officiate not only in Asia but also in other parts of the world. Names like Cikgu Zainal, Katheravale,George Joseph, Koh Guan Kiat, Othman Omar, Ismail Yaacob, Stephen Ovinis, Subramaniam Nathan, Col. Kamaruddin, Nasarudin Shariff, Nazri Abdullah, Nik Ahmad, Selearajan, , Kamaruddin Md Diah, Jamil Zakaria, Amir Sharifudin Wong, Che Mud, Nadarajan, VKS Sinaya, Kassim, and lots more were regulars in the international stage. All of these men somehow played a part, in one way or another in developing my career as a referee. I am indebted to them all. I idolized them.
Capt Halim and Mat Lazim stamped our mark in the world cup. We are also not too far away today and our men like Krishnan , Sabri, Saadon , and the younger guys are also earning praise, and even our women referees have performed at international levels. Our challenge is being led by none other than Subkhidin.

The late Nazri Abdullah served as an instructor for referees in the last world cup and was preparing the next batch for the coming one. Cikgu Amir is serving in the Maldives developing the referees there.

You see, you can’t say the same about our national team, the same few names keep coming up, Ghani Minhat, Soh Chin Aun, Santokh , the late Mokhtar and Arumugam, these are but a few. Where are the present batch. No denying that we did have a formidable team during Towkay’s time. Maybe Shebby, who probably found better fame and fortune in broadcasting. But where are the present batch. Are they anywhere near the world cup? Our referees have been there and Insyallah will be there again and again.
You see, the referee department has been continuously successful. We are moving closer and closer to the world cup . On the contrary, the national team continues to drift further away. To say that the disharmony in the dept has spread into other departments and caused the ranking to drop is grossly unfair and malicious.

To my brother referees, remember my 'pantun':

Langkah masuk rimau di dada
Silap langkah rimau dibedil
Berani, tegas, cergas, adil, waspada
Kalimah Keramat Kami Pengadil

United we stand, divided we fall

FOR THE GOOD OF THE GAMEteachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-27693564676543185472009-02-11T21:44:00.001+08:002009-02-28T17:25:11.724+08:00Brother ThinkingReceived a mail from my youngest brother today, really humbled me, anyway , am sharing it with you, and you and you too, (unedited cept for some naughty details)
with a message, stop and think about what's really important and who really matters.

Kudos to you Sr. Sibling !!!
I am at work filing off the hours to complete my 8 hours stint as per my employment contract. Truth be known, as the saying goes, this tupai is waiting to fall la.. so I need to find the extra drive to get me to work.. My evaluation was Excellent and Exceed which means I am playing my cards well however there is really no place in my orgn for a person like me.. Sigh..

Anyways nuff about me.. I visited the site of our Eldest.. I am impressed.. Very eloquent and intresting.. I see he has his band of brothers along side to support him. Todays posting had a sad tone at the lost of his friend.. so nothing really much I can comment on.. However one thing I noticed.. I too have this tendencies to want to share with the world my existence. However for the fear of release too much information, I do a weekly update for the entertainment of my buddies.. I always wondered where these feelings had rooted itself from.. NOW I KNOW.. It seems tat I have taken much of my outlook to life from my eldest.. Well honestly I dono whether to be thankful or curse and spit.. One thing for sure, I know my life and who I am is model after our Celebrity.. Strange but true.. It was nice to read and recognize the emotions convey in messages on the blog.. Funny how siblings are.. Dude you should however write more about everything around you as well.. Maybe its premature as you are only beginning to stretch your feet..

Was on the home front over the weekend.. Actually I had planned to stay in KL and Ooore Suthe.. However Amma called and I spoke to Amma on Saturday and my heart almost fell to the ground. I told amma I wasn’t coming home and I felt the disappointment in her voice.. It Sucked major but then I just was too lazy to go home.. so nonchalantly I ignore the hush disappointment Amma felt in me.. I then asked how was Cherimmas’ Bday.. I ofcourse in my aimless life had forgot to call cherimma despite reminding myself many times..Anyways what Amma said next almost had me in tears.. In her gentle unassuming manner amma told me how she went and bought a Cake for cherimma.. Immediate a vision came into my head of how our two ladies were sitting together just the two of them alone despite having us Children close by, and singing Happy Bday and blowing candles.. Of course tats not exactly wat happens in our family… We hide our emotions as we never really were brought up with Hugs and Kisses.. Amma bought cake, no formalities.. just cut cake labeled it as Cherimma birthday.. I felt so useless.. what kind of Son was I.. How could I let these 2 people sit there alone and enjoy the day while I sat and enjoyed my stupid life.. Anyways I was so guilty and planned to go home the next day and make up for it…

I went home and took the ladies out.. And GOD I tell you… We are the luckiest people on earth to have parents like ours. These two ladies are amazing.. Just sitting and chatting with them makes you so proud to be part of them.. They are so kind, gentle, unselfish and blessed with godly innocence. Despite all the challenges they face from our so called relatives, they always find some humor in life. It was just amazing sitting with these gentle creatures enjoying the simplistic life the led and the whole essence of being.. I felt like I was in heaven and why not , as hindu we know God is in ourselves.. and I feel like I am with God everytime I am with them.. Later that night while we all prepared to retire, I saw Amma going to cherimma room to sleep and I asked Amma.. why you going there.. you got your own room now wat.. You wouldn’t believe wat Amma said.. Amma said.. cherimma was sick and cannot walk properly so she wanted to be close incase anything cherimma wanted… I was shocked..! Never had I heard or seen acts of selflessness in my life. This was Love.. The true Love that People always professed to have felt but in reality never came close. It was so beautiful and endearing to watch how they love each other so much. In our absence they had built a bond beyond siblings.. They were truly best friends and relied on each other for every including emotional support.. This was family, this was Nirvana.. this was hinduism at its best.. I felt humbled like never before.. We often think with our exposure and worldly travels we were wise.. but in reality most of us are the biggest morons in the world.. we have nirvana right infront of us but yet we go in pursuit of foolish things to satisfy our immediate emptiness. Here was an example of eternal and pure love.. Man I was lessoned..

So the weekend was quite the Catalyst for my rethinking again.. Life? It can be complicated or it can so simple … why not choose simple and enjoy the finest gifts God has given us.. Our Parents.. Food for thought ?

Anyways I thank god for them always and am so proud to have them.. I will try to be a better person because of them and hopefully earn the right to be their son..!

CIAO CHIN CIAO My siblings !!!

Salam Sejahtera / With Best Regards,

miniedteachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-13941959879730853462009-02-09T08:20:00.000+08:002009-02-09T14:52:27.061+08:00SOMEONE I KNOW
In his own words: "In refereeing, you only get one chance, you must use it to the best"

He gave us and the world his best, there is no way anybody can replace him.
What's left is for us to carry on the challenge and realize his visions.
Many of us left feeling lost and promised to draw strength from each other. Do we actually think about why there is a need for rules and regulations. Why is there a need for fences and walls and gates and trenches?
From time immemorial, these elements seem to be part and parcel of our life. Can we live without them? Do we really need them? Are fences built to keep others out or are they keeping us in? Who are the prisoners, those inside or those on the outside? Who is protected, people inside or people outside?
I suppose we have to look at in context. Fences around our houses and fences around correctional facilities serve different purposes. A fence in the zoo and the fence around cattle in a farm stand for different reasons.
Why is there a need for gates and walls? Must we always filter what goes in and out?
I would choose to think in a perfect world, there would be no need for fences to keep people out or the reverse. There would be no reasons to fear the 'outside' and there would be no reason for those on the outside to be suspicious of the 'inside'. Where do we stand as civilized humans when we do not respect one another's privacy and belongings. Everybody has a responsibility to each other that goes without saying.
Stop, and think, where are we now? Are we safer today than we were yesterday? Look around you, are there more fences, gates and walls?
Fences, walls, gates. trenches, barricades, obstacles don't only exist physically but they also exist within oneself, within communities, ideologies, beliefs, norms and even philosophies. Thus, the question again? Are we really free? Is there or will there ever be a perfect world? Freedom is just a word.teachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-25245851437939555222009-01-05T19:05:00.000+08:002009-01-05T19:18:55.537+08:00Start Today
Well, here goes; this is one of my new year resolutions. Must admit that there were a thousand times that I wanted to but I was just lazy. I was also afraid that my post would not sound intelligent or interesting to others. There was also a need to make my blog informative. Somehow, this morning dragged myself to the pc to just say what I want to say. Could not care less about what others think in this context.
The past two months were not a holiday to me as it were to others. I was rather 'dogged' down with work. Some would say that the right word is 'bogged', well i prefer 'dogged'. coz the connotation is rather suitable here.
To be 'bogged down' with work is to be totally busy with work and so tied up that you can't do anything else.
To be 'dogged down' really would mean everything above plus all the emotional. mental and physical baggage that comes with it. It is rather figurative in meaning.
Being a rather self appointed eccentric of sorts, explains the difference in meaning to a same 'experience'.
The past two months were quite eventful I must say. The kid finished his formal 11 years of school. He now shuttles between the guitar in his room and the pc in the opposite room. In between this busy schedule of driving every adult in the radius of 500 miles crazy, he is forced to attend driving lessons (that's another story) and intermediate screams (or pleas) to clean his room, get the trash, wash the car or anything that will get him of that guitar that plays at 10,000 decibels or so. Of course he also had his first rock concert experience, bus ride to KL, movie with friends and so on. The so called matured people never forgetting to remind him of his obligation to God and country along the way. He is growing faster than we can keep up. I wonder. why can't adults leave the kids alone? Is it our duty to be a nagging reminder and poster of guidance? YES IT IS! Dropping the 'nagging will be fine though.
Yours truly gave up one of his passion for two months to concentrate on work. The passion took him all around the country and even some neighbouring ones. Feels rather empty now. Actually considering quitting completely. Then there was work and work and work.
The missus was bored to death and probably wondered what a her sins were to be hooked to this crazy old man who even grew his hair long and refused to comb it over the holidays.
And suddenly we are all in the new year. Talk about time moving fast. I think it just whizzed past between my legs. Yes and time has no obligations to warn anybody.
Well it is time for resolutions and I have already broken two of them. That's another 53 to go. Well. I just hope and pray the world will be a better place. People will be human and the kid will be filthy rich and score 21 'A's.

teachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-77990736880630690662008-10-18T08:06:00.000+08:002008-10-18T09:31:58.979+08:00THINKING AGAIN

It is going to be an exciting weekend but some how the excitement has been drowned by the water supply disruption. Water the source of life really strikes a chord in my body, mind and soul. I stop to think why just the thought of having no water sent me crazy and working up tantrums. Then, I suddenly remembered that I am a water sign...AQUARIUS.. wonder if it means anything at all. Having no water made me miserable and quite restless.
I also noticed that pushing me in a corner always drew out an ugly side in me but this time I was a little more calm except for the uneasiness of not having enough water to splash and be spoiled silly.
I remembered the story of "the man who complained about having no shoes until he saw a man with no legs"
Well. I guess it always pays to count your blessings rather than look at what you don't have.
It was disappointing to hear the crackers going off and totally heart breaking to still witness the careless dash across the busy road with no regard at all for their own safety. No amount off advice, warnings and threats have been successful.
Lessons learned, some groups of society never think and mostly never follow the thoughts and advice of others who bother to think. Thinking and caring is not in vogue. Throwing caution to the wind is the in thing today. Do others matter.. no definitely not!
So what works, an army or a policing force to drum the fear of hell into them? No not necessary, it would suffice if we could get them to come and go in and orderly fashion. Maintain security within our walls. Distressing don't you think? Well , that's reality.
Counting our blessings, there were hundreds of others who smiled and said a prayer for us. Many who decided that teachers and teaching makes sense. It was wise to follow the wisdom of "the have been there have done that". It was comforting that nobody killed each other within our jurisdiction. No wars challenging and questioning the rights due to one's colour of skin. They came and they left. We are richer and know what to prepare for the next time the tide rises or the rain falls.

teachuhmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15507973970139330863noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764303889649157384.post-63182202754727629662008-09-20T17:32:00.000+08:002008-09-20T17:51:14.589+08:00LIFE GOES ON

Well folks, life goes on, today I finally hooked up the strymyx thing. Hope to save a couple of ringgits there. With a teenage son around, you can't really restrict the usage of the net. He has to use it to be 'there' and to be 'in'. With all the downloading and uploading and different sites that they have to explore, the old dial up thing is just not economic, We actually thread on being cruel by still sticking to the dial up. Let the kid run dude.

Life for us old folks is just not the same as for the young. Things are moving faster than we can keep up with. Well you have to let them go and venture out into the world and find their own travels and adventures. We do worry that they may fall but that's all part of the learning process. We have been given the chance to teach and train them. Hopefully, Godwilling, our lessons have not been in vain. If we had prepared them well, then they should be okay. I guess....., No harm worrying though.... Well guess I'm in the league now. The world is smaller today. Remember when you walk, take small steps, don't hurry, you may fall into ditches.
